What are the backgrounds made out of?
The backgrounds are constructed from hybrid industrial grade foam.

Is it safe for animals?
Yes, it is completely safe for animals. It is non-toxic and ph neutral.

Can the backgrounds be cut or trimmed?
Yes, they can be easily cut or trimmed down to size. This can be done with any handheld saw or even a utility blade.

Can I hide the intake/outtake tubes and heaters?
Yes, but not on the Slimline Rockwall. This is because this is fixed against the wall of the aquarium. All other models have more width. There is space behind the background to hide just about anything you want.

How are the backgrounds installed?
The backgrounds need to be siliconed into place. Simply apply silicone along the edges of the background and softly press against the walls of the aquarium. Allow 24 hours for the silicone to dry and you are ready to fill. You can buy the silicone from a local pet shop.

For those with reptile enclosures that do not want to silicone the background into place, you can use Velcro strips to hold the background in place.

There are many ways to do the installation. Here you can see how Patrick in Canada is doing it:

How much space do the backgrounds take up?
Depending on the style of the background that you choose, the width will vary. Visit an authorised dealer to view our range of products.

My aquarium has top braces. Can I still install an Aquaterra background?
Yes you can. If you can remove and refit the braces, any Aquaterra background can be installed. If the braces cannot be removed, the background can easily be cut and re-fitted within the aquarium (see background installations).

Slimline rockwall is also available in three different sizes, which are expandable within the aquarium, to any length you require.

Do I have to empty my aquarium to install an Aquaterra background?
Yes, because the background needs to be siliconed in place. We will lend you an aquarium to keep your fish until you have installed your background. Various sizes of aquariums are available.

TIPS

Hide all your equipment
Use the space behind the background by hiding heaters, pumps and all other equipment! This way your aquarium will look much more natural!

Making a filter
Place foam, bioballs and all the filtration material you normally use in your filter behind the background. Combine these with a small powerhead, and your filter is ready! Here you can see how Patrick in Canada is doing it:
How to make a filter

The water flow
The water should pass the filter from one end, and out in the other end. Place the intake in the bottom, and let the powerhead return the water in the top.
